The Artist of the Day…Linkin Park

I’ve not listened to these guys in an age! I’m after changing that.

Although rooted in alternative metal, Linkin Park became one of the most successful acts of the early 2000s by welcoming elements of hip-hop, modern rock, and atmospheric electronica into their music. The band’s rise was indebted to the aggressive rap-rock movement made popular by the likes of Korn and Limp Bizkit, a movement that paired grunge’s alienation with a bold, buzzing soundtrack. Linkin Park added a unique spin to that formula, however, focusing as much on the vocal interplay between singer Chester Bennington and rapper Mike Shinoda as the band’s muscled instrumentation, which layered DJ effects atop heavy, processed guitars. While the group’s sales never eclipsed those of its tremendously successful debut, Hybrid Theory, few alt-metal bands rivaled Linkin Park during the band’s heyday.

Much of the nü-metal of the late-1990s and early-2000s staked its claim on being as oafish as possible, but Linkin Park were the nü-metal group you could bring home to mom — and still play while hanging out with your frat-bound friends — they were sensitive and smart, but they still yelled.

LMAO that is an awesome description. Now let’s head to YouTube.

And there you go.

    Only one Fringe recap today:

Emily Mallum was a girl with a haunted, beautifully alien face – her dark saucer eyes and line-thin mouth and way young voice belonged to an anime waif, not a flesh and blood human being – and an extraordinary gift for drawing that portended a promising artistic career. She had another talent, too, one that portended a less desirable outcome for many, including Emily herself. Like some grim and gothy art school Cassandra, the creepy little girl was prone to receiving prophetic visions of death.

    And we have the ratings:

Meanwhile, Fox’s Fringe also saw an uptick on Friday, rising to 3.4 million viewers and a 1.2, the latter up a tenth from the previous two outings.

HOLY CRAP! Entertaining an 8 year-old is exhausting.

So far, she/we have: had popcorn and movie night…watched 2 movies (via NETFLIX); went out for a pancake breakfast; played endlessly with kittens and cats; baked home-made chicken fingers; gone to the planetarium for a star show and a laser light show; made spaghetti sauce and penne pasta; worked on multiplication tables; made a necklace; watched cat videos on youtube; done word puzzles; taken a bubble bath using some frankincense scented essential oil.

All this with no meltdowns. lolol
