Just for fun:
Until last week, paleontologists could offer no clear-cut evidence for the color of dinosaurs. Then researchers provided evidence that a dinosaur called Sinosauropteryx had a white-and-ginger striped tail. And now a team of paleontologists has published a full-body portrait of another dinosaur, in striking plumage that would have delighted that great painter of birds John James Audubon.
“This is actual science, not ‘Avatar,’ ” said Richard O. Prum, an evolutionary biologist at Yale and co-author of the new study, published in Science.

This story refuses to die:
Taylor Swift‘s Grammy appearance continues to provoke debate, this time with her label manager chiming in to defend the vocal talents of the young star. “Maybe she’s not the best technical singer, but she’s probably the best emotional singer,” Big Machine head Scott Borchetta told the Tennessean late Wednesday night.
Pop & Hiss was especially critical of Swift’s duet with Stevie Nicks, noting in our live blog that pairing Swift’s good-natured charm with the distinct Nicks wasn’t the best showcase for the young star. Times critic Ann Powers went further, writing that “Swift gave a strikingly bad vocal performance at Staples Center on Sunday, sounding tinny and rhythmically flat-footed.”

And while we’re on the subject…
The Taylor Swift Grammy Awards hoopla — the one concerning her pitchy performance, not the four trophies she took home Sunday night — simply will not die down, and now the original “American Idol” Kelly Clarkson is taking issue with comments that Big Machine Records Chief Executive Scott Borchetta made in Swift’s defense.
Kelly took to her blog after Borchetta declared, “This is not ‘American Idol.’ This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.”

Looking ahead to next week’s chart:
