Paint Your Fingernails Black Release Week? Since you mentioned it, yes, both pathetic and hopeless.

The fantard excitement for Adam’s debut takes hold.
Although it is a decent response, fantards do love to moralize.
…
The same way the song morphed into being about rape.
This has been covered but I just had to say WOW. it’s not the artists job to be the moral compass of the rest of the world. They create their art and people are free to appreciate it or not.
I am one of those parents and I know everything you just wrote. However, you mentioned all these shows that are on CABLE, not network TV. And no, if I didn’t follow AI online, I would have no idea Adam would perform something of this nature on a music awards show based on his AI performances.
If you didn’t follow AI online you wouldn’t know who Adam was to begin with and you probably wouldn’t look at him any differently than you would any other performer. Because he’s from AI, it seems he’s been placed in this strange box that he should act like he’s a disney performer so that some parent doesn’t have to explain to their kid why people are DANCING on television.
You think parents should know to put parental controls on the AMAs…seriously? lol. Yeah, we know to nix rap, MTV, etc……but the AMA’s? I could totally see something like this on the MTV awards, but this is ABC on Sunday night. Not one parent is gonna think of putting controls on this show.
Do you think the AMAs is a show that FAMILIES will sit down and watch together? I don’t.
As for what parents will or will not do I have a child and I’ve never had a problem explaining sex to her so if she watches this performance and thinks it about more than just dancing and she asks questions, I’ll gladly answer them for her.

Fantards of other Idols **cough**Cooktards**cough**enjoy the prospects of an Adam failure.
.
Will my house get TP’d if I say I agree with you word for word? I’m ready to get out a lawn chair and popcorn if his career tanks. I am biased toward Cook, but with him I just like his “Midwest guy who got lucky” feel, and work ethic. Not to mention his voice which is the best YMMV. I guess I just like a masculine voice. No offense intended.

A fantard smack down of other fantards.

Making Idol sale’s predictions is in a fantard’s blood. As is the propensity to compare/defend—passive aggressively, or not—the numbers of the new
Idol threatkid on the block to the numbers for their Idol obsession.I predict that you will be proven wrong. But really who knows?
Cook was the #1 selling new artist this year, in terms of album sales, and #13 overall. Sales have also gone down by at least 13% since last year, so Adam has a very large mountain to climb. I wish him well, but I am just not convinced that this album warrants such optimism. Even if he does end up with a couple of monster hits, a la Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, that didn’t really translate into album sales for them did it? Didn’t Gaga only just recently make platinum? I know it took a year anyways.

Did I mention passive aggressive?
If he couldn’t land a performance slot on the actual show last year at the prime of his album promo I sure as heck wouldn’t expect him to get one now when he doesn’t have a single to promote.

Fangirls will
make stuff uplie to prove their point.I am in Europe and I’ve heard of Daughtry and Cook but I have never heard of Adam. (And of course I have heard of Kelly, and Jordin and even Archie) And yes, the song is in the movie, they weren’t going to cut it. What I meant it that if they wanted to promote Adam outside of US, why not start by using his song? But they didn’t.
Point 1:
Leome, the one claiming that she never heard of Adam Lambert, is posting on an AI fansite.
Point 2:
If one has heard of little d, Cook, Kelly, Jordin, and Archie, they are pretty much a regular follower of American Idol. To claim that they “never heard of Adam Lambert…right!

Fantards always try to explain why their Idol’s single
tankedhas not yet skyrocketed to the top of the charts and with radio spins.Yes FYE was released as a single, yes a video was made, yes it hasn’t done well on radio all truisms. Now the semantics come into play. Was it released by mistake, was it released on a trial basis to get some airplay prior to the AMAs and to get it playing “onDemand” where it could be listened to, is it out in radio land with hopes that if it does well on the AMAs, radio will begin spinning it without RCA having to go through the process of convincing stations to spin it…its there just hovering.
Has RCA also decided to release another single that is a bit more user friendly and can move easily between top 40 and HAC? Has it gone to formal ads yet…or is it also hovering to see how the AMAs and the album does. And is all of this done just to increase eventual sales for an album that RCA thinks is really good.
And TfM is a horse of a totally different color and it’s history is too long and boring to repeat for the gazillion and 61st time.
I don’t have any definitive answers….does someone else. It seems to me that it is all speculation, by most everyone, at this point. Or am I being to pedantic, again?

Fantards love to hijack threads.
It makes me hopeful for Cook in one way, because his concert sales and albums have started off well: although it does worry me that he hasn’t broadened his fanbase enough. Still time (and the second album release will tell).
Cook always strikes me as someone who owns the stage when he performs. I’ve never seen him live, still I can see it in YT clips. Good performers have a presence… he has it. I didn’t much care for his first album, but I’m looking forward to hearing his next now that he has had some time (and distance) from the AI machine.

Fantards search for a variety of metrics to prove their Idol is the most successful of all Idols.
Where do you get this? I just checked alexa
Another metric of success…number of registered members on an Idol fansite.
Answering my own question, if I haven’t messed up on the calculations –
AO – 35353 (1251 fans online) – 3.5% of fans are online
DCO – 24279 (4635 fans online) – 19% of fans are online
If AO really that unpopular compared to DCO? The DCO number still looks odd to me though, I don’t see why such a high percentage of fans should be online at any one time there. At the moment the numbers simply don’t make sense, whether the sites count only registered fans or not.
Oh, did I mention passive aggressive?
Fantards often use quotes from their Idol’s marketing/PR team
This is a quote that RCA management has on AO site today regarding the revamp scheduled for tomorrow

Every now and again, a fantard gets it right.

There is always the uberexpert fantard around to set the record straight.
I get the following MJs ranks higher than DCO which ranks higher than ALO.
MJs:
Traffic Rank: 47,252
Traffic Rank US: 12,434
DCO:
Traffic Rank: 152,733
Traffic Rank US: 44,531
ALO:
Traffic Rank: 2,187,627
Traffic Rank US: 381,223
Adam’s official site is AdamOfficial.com — looks like you checked AdamLambertOfficial –
The Alexa rank for AdamOfficial is – past 90 days is: #10,998 US, #50,028 Worldwide
Link: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/Adamofficial.com
The above ranks are correct for MJs and DCO.
Also — the #2 keyword used to get to AmericanIdol.com is “Adam Lambert” after “American Idol”.
All hard copy sales of an album (Big box outlets, Amazon, official websites, etc.) these numbers are reported to SoundScan and are counted [and you better bet your boots that RCA is making sure every last CD is counted....I would even bet CDs that are given away as prizes (like on TV talk shows) and as radio gifts are counted...even if it is the record company buying from itself to give the CD away [someone in the know please respond].
To count as a Billboard or RIAA sale unit, the item must be sold for at least 50% of the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. Promotional sales do not count.
“Mail” distributed hard copy albums, like from a fan site or Amazon or Barnes and Nobel account for about 15% (usually) of all album sales.
The percentage of delivered CD’s is now around 20% of sales — Amazon CD deliveries average around 10% of total music sales for Q4 2009.
For the first half of 2009 Amazon was 12% of total music sales — 14% of CD sales, and 9% of digital sales. Amazon’s market share is increasing, while the total music business is shrinking.
Finally, music sales revenue in the US are currently DOWN 21% vs. last year. It is the economy and illegal downloads and free music, but it is down substantially. And sales do not look like with will stop dropping. Musical artists who depend on record sales are hurting, artist with strong concert sales are doing fine.

From DCO’s head cheerleader:
Thursday, November 19, 2009 – 15:58 Scott:
PeachMango, it’s even worse this year for AI8. I think AL was more of a “frontrunner” with a “surprise” loss than Archie was, and Kris was never as strong a contestant as David was. We all assume Kris’s album will do ok but nowhere near David’s 280k, and AL is a crapshoot. Lots of hype, but right now, his two singles’ sales and a seemingly bungled launch of them have generated huge amounts of angst and debate on the other blog(s). Plus, neither versions of No Boundaries charted. Last year David had a HUGE hit in TOML going into LO, and LO was charting nicely going into DCTR. It all seems so well planned now. This year, no coronation song carried Kris thru the summer, and the signs are for OK but not stellar debuts numbers wise. And radio is coming along for Kris’ single, but no better than LO did so their fans don’t have a huge success like TOML to hold onto & track with glee. AMAs will surely give AL a nice boost. At least last year we had that fantastic SNL performance to leave a great flavor in our mouth the entire month of Davember. I say all this, as we look back at the last year, to see how fortunate David and his fans have been.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s 53 week old Fearless pulled in 91,380 (HDD final today). That’s a real WTF situation lol! Some things just cannot be explained.
Bon Jovi’s new album debuted at 165,871, but sometimes artists who’ve been around for decades don’t do much better. Does anyone know if their album debuted everywhere, or was it limited this week? I expected at least 200k from them.
Switchfoot debuted at 33,286. David is now a much bigger star than the band he covered. That’s what AI does for a mega-talent!
You’d think a mega-talent’s debut album wouldn’t have fallen off the SS200 after 44 weeks.
Talk about pathetic…

Spread out the comments over time so it doesn’t look like a staged fan pile-on!
Skimming what’s been posted so far… the comments reflect SO WELL on DC fandom! Calm, fact-based, focused on issues that are important to the award and the EW audience, and when other bands are mentioned, associating Cook with some important and hip acts… what y’all are doing is a thing of beauty and refutes the silly and demeaning myths about who Cook fans are. Two thumbs up, and I may have to go look for some more thumbs.
But it was and IS a staged fan pile-on.

You have probably noticed that commenters are complaining that a “fan site” for David Cook has taken over the EW comment section. Maybe we should cool it.
Saturday, November 21, 2009 – 21:45 blackkathy:
got my husband to comment…much more nonchantly than I ever would! But he really does like him.
Nonchantly, huh? Wordnerds of a feather apparently do flock together…
Saturday, November 21, 2009 – 21:49 Luvncookie:
No way, this is a chance to tell them what we think! They asked…so lets tell them!!!! Maybe if we reply to the earlier comments instead of all the later comments?
