Here are HDD’s final predictions for the top of next week’s sales chart:
YOUR WEAKEND TOP 12 CHART PREVIEW: John Mayer should easily top next week’s album chart with a total kissin’ close to that of his last studio effort in 2006. Lest we forget, boys and girls, that’s something to brag about these days. Andrea Bocelli will likely be the #2 album next week, as his Christmas release continues to pick up steam. The rest of the Top 5 could land in any order, as Norah Jones, 50 Cent and Casting Crowns all look to land in about the same area code. But given that this is the weekend before Thanksgiving, don’t fall out of your chair if sales pick up and make it a race for #2 on Monday. But that’s three days away…
* John Mayer (Columbia) 290-315k
Andrea Bocelli (Decca) 190-200k
* Norah Jones (Blue Note) 150-160k
* 50 Cent (Aftermath/Interscope) 140-150k
* Casting Crowns (Provident/Reunion) 140-150k
* Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 110-120k
Michael Jackson’s This Is It (Epic) 95-105k
Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 90-100k
* Kris Allen (19/RCA/RMG) 85-90k
Taylor Swift Fearless (Big Machine) 85-90k
Twilight Saga: New Moon (Chop Shop/Atlantic) 75-80k
* Them Crooked Vultures (Interscope) 70-75k
* Denotes debut
You may now return to wondering why five of the names in this item are boldfaced twice. (11/20a)

In music news:
Scottish singer Susan Boyle, one of the biggest stars of the Internet age, seeks to turn global celebrity into record sales next week with the release of her debut album “I Dreamed a Dream.”
Named after the song from the musical “Les Miserables” that made her famous, the 12-track album is a mix of pop covers like Madonna’s “You’ll See” and The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer” and Christian stalwarts like “Amazing Grace” and “Silent Night.”
The Sony Music record hits stores in Britain on Monday and in the United States on Tuesday, and the early commercial signs are promising.

Worth reading:
Back in early 1995 when Sheryl Crow won Grammy gold for her debut album, her bank account was hardly glistening.
The album, “Tuesday Night Music Club,” had already sold about two million copies in the seven months before Crow walked off with honors for best new artist, record of the year and female pop vocalist.
But it was not until the following year that the rock singer/songwriter received her first royalty check, she recalled in a recent interview with Reuters.
“My manager was still working out of a storage unit,” Crow, aged 47, said. “That was his office, and I was still driving an old Corvair and paying my rent.
“The way it’s set up is that the money comes in and they (the record label) hold it for as long as possible, and you ultimately have to make threats to get the money.”

Also of interest:
The founders gave Congress the power to bestow on authors and inventors exclusive rights to the use of their work, and those rights have been expanding ever since. Among other things, lawmakers have stretched copyrights to cover not only the reproduction of original works but their performance in public. But that expansion has benefited some creators and not others. When it comes to music, songwriters have broad performance rights, but recording artists do not.
As a consequence, businesses that play music to help attract or entertain customers pay royalties only to songwriters, not to the bands and labels whose recordings they use.

How to Write an Off-Site Fan Review or Promotion that Drips Street Cred
NOVEMBER 16, 2009, 9:42 pm
This is a handy guide for fans who want to spread the word about Cook and the band on non-fan sites, focusing on promoting him as a serious rock musician and (through our actions) working to dispel the myth that Cook’s fans are a bunch of estrogen-crazed desperate housewives with no musical knowledge.
This is NOT intended to profile One Right Way to Be a Fan! This guide is about effectively accomplishing a single type of task. Think of it as “All Right Now” in comparison to “Music of the Night” — we’re here to rock, and that doesn’t take away from the other but supplements it.

I gotta figure this out.
I type in a comment about my double-feature experience at the multiplex tonight, trying to be all contributory and stuff, almost finish and whoosh, it disappears. Some key I hit on this laptop makes it happen; Not the first instance of a vanishing comment… never happens with the desktop.
I gotta figure this out.
84 years old and still touring. I don’t contemplate being 84 and still breathing.

I know I risk offending any closeted Jennifer Lopez fans here by posting this link, but it’s worth it. I really dislike the woman and lo and behold someone else does too. ROFLMFAO.
