In other Idol news:
Carrie Underwood‘s “Play On” bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week, shifting 318,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It’s the country star and former “American Idol” champ’s second album to top the Billboard 200, after her sophomore set “Carnival Ride” bowed in the penthouse with 527,000 in 2007. Underwood’s debut effort, “Some Hearts,” started at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2005 and at No. 1 on Top Country Albums with 315,000.

And some TV news:
If you are one of those TV viewers who think “Glee” is just about funny lines and amazing music — and there’s nothing wrong with that — you’re in for a surprising ride tonight when the hit Fox show returns after its three-week hiatus.
In previous episodes, “Glee” has hinted at its big heart: Remember Kurt (Chris Colfer) coming out to his father and Finn (Cory Monteith) learning that his girlfriend is pregnant and crying on his teacher’s shoulders? Weepy stuff. But tonight’s episode is a game-changer for the off-beat series about an underdog glee club, guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and probably dance a little, all the while answering burning questions about Artie (Kevin McHale) Sue (Jane Lynch) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) and showing off the vocal talents of Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt in a Diva-Off.

After yesterday’s People’s Choice Awards debacle, I thought that maybe a little Grammy news might be in order:
As the music industry descends upon Nashville today for the Country Music Assn. Awards, the Recording Academy sent a subtle reminder that its Grammy Awards are just around the corner. The first crop of artists performing at the Dec. 2 Grammy nomination prime-time special, the double explanation-pointed “The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night,” have been revealed.
Television regulars the Black Eyed Peas, R&B veteran Maxwell and adult country duo Sugarland will all appear on the CBS special, which will air live for the East Coast at 9 p.m. Traditionally, artists who appear at the unveiling of the Grammy nominations are guaranteed a nod or two, but the Recording Academy broke from such a predictable mold last year.

Looking ahead to next week’s sales chart:
For Bon Jovi, The Circle is complete.
The band’s new Island album will be next week’s top debut, with a total hovering in the 140-150k range, based on one-day sales reports from those retailers able to tear themselves away from watching Wanda Sykes’ new talk show.
That will set up a four-way race for the top spot next Tuesday among the Jersey boys, this week’s #1 finisher, CMA host Carrie Underwood, dark horse Andrea Bocelli and Michael Jackson.

Hey Lisa!

I’m still in shock and not in a good way.
Last night I flicked the TV channels and chanced upon CSI New York, thought that girl looks familiar and then she sang, switched off very quickly. This morning I was merrily cleaning the kitchen and looked up at the TV and was assaulted by Constantine on some awful American soap opera. I was so aghast I actually stood there open mouthed while he sung and in the following scene tucked his greasy locks behind his ear before he tried to snog the girl. I screamed and dived for the remote control!
Is the TV bad for my health?
Saying that I’m ashamed to say I’ve come under the spell of True Blood. Please reassure me that no AI contestant appears or I’ll have to forgo that pleasure as well.

Hi Nevada.
Happy anniversary everyone, I’m still here in spirit, shame that life gets in the way!!!!!!!!!!

I haven’t heard about any Idols on True Blood, but after eight seasons there are so many finalists & semi-finalists out there, you never know…
So you won’t be in the market for Katharine’s second album when (or perhaps IF) it is released in January?

Carrie Underwood, Play On 317,695

Daughtry, Leave This Town 8,000, -4 percent, 724,000

Actual capacity = 77,321
Reported capacity = 45,008
Tickets sold = 35,417
Actual percentage sold (averaged) = 45%
Reported percentage sold (averaged) = 78%
While it isn’t necessarily uncommon for a venue to offer different seating configurations, in most cases venues are selected specifically because they can accommodate the predicted demand for tickets.
Whoever predicted the arrogant poser tool could sell out a 16,280-capacity arena was clearly delusional.
