A ray of sunshine:
Its characters may feel like a bunch of unloved high-school misfits, but the quirky musical TV comedy “Glee” is putting smiles on the faces of music industry executives searching for new revenue in an era of plunging album sales.
Two months into the 2009-10 TV season, “Glee” is drawing a weekly audience of 8.6 million viewers to the Fox television network. Fans have bought more than two million tunes sung by the show’s cast on iTunes, and soundtracks are being compiled and sold in traditional stores.
Revenues are being split among Fox and the record company, and artists and music publishers are being paid licensing fees for songs “Glee” uses in musical numbers in each episode.

In concert news:
LN/TM FINANCIAL REPORTS: Live Nation was down and Ticketmaster up in their Q3 financial reports as the two companies anticipate approval for their impending merger early next year. Live Nation reported a profit of $69.2 million, down from $138 million a year earlier, with the company’s stock shares falling 1.4% to $7.22, though that is almost triple from its all-time low in March. Ticketmaster reported a quarterly profit of $13.1 million, up from $9.6 million a year earlier, with revenue up 2.7% to $348.5 million under new boss Irving Azoff. Despite Justice Dept. scrutiny, the two are expected to complete their consolidation in the first quarter of 2010. (11/10p)

Nominations are in:
It’s official: Vampires are the new cool or, at least, the people’s choice. The pop-culture juggernaut that is “Twilight” picked up six nominations this morning for the 2010 People’s Choice Awards, including favorite movie, favorite franchise, and the on-screen team of leads Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. The trio also received individual acting nods, with Pattinson and Stewart nominated for movie actor and movie actress and Lautner for breakout movie actor.
Vampires also ruled the roost on the small screen, with HBO’s camp treasure “True Blood” taking noms for TV obsession and TV sci-fi/fantasy. Star Anna Paquin also was nominated for TV drama actress. The 2010 People’s Choice Awards will be broadcast live Jan. 6 on CBS.

Of possible interest:
Happy birthday, “Sesame Street.” You are 40 years old now, just a year younger than Mickey Mouse was the year you arrived on television — and he was semi-retired by then, while you still report to work each day. This very morning you begin your 41st season, you and your cast of aging humans and ageless Muppets, with three first-episode veterans still in residence: Bob McGrath (who plays Bob), Loretta Long (called Susan) and Big Bird, who is still only 6 years old, although the man inside him, Caroll Spinney, will turn 76 next month. (The Bird’s voice has dropped a little, but you should be so spry.) That kind of continuity is rare, if not otherwise nonexistent, on television. Certainly there is no other children’s show to match you for longevity, cultural penetration or global reach.

From DCO, fangirls react to the People’s Choice Award nominations:
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 12:52 likethis:
Well, the nominees are in, and DC is not on any of the lists. I don’t think they really ever counted the write-ins except as an outlet for fans to show their love. I have to say that I think its more than likely that David had more votes under ‘Breakout Artist’ than Susan Boyle who did make it onto the list. Sigh. I guess since Adam and Kris are nominees for BA along with Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga, its ok. I’m glad we weren’t sucked into that particular Idol fan war. Both A & K have hot and hungry fans just out of the gate. They’ll be voting like mad. I think it will come down to Adam and Lady Gaga with Gaga winning.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 13:25 Joi:
The nominations were just announced a little while ago. David was not nominated in any of the categories.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 13:27 Squirrellygirl:
Gosh! I can’t believe PCA dissed all of David’s fans like that. What has Adam done compared to David? Even Kris won AI, at least that. Oh well. Snicker.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 13:32 annie702:
Hmmm… and here I was thinking that a “Breakthrough Artist” would have… you know… music out there. Oops, silly me.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 14:13 Squirrellygirl:
I agree. PCA is not the people’s choice. It’s lopsided, and unfair. I like Adam, but he really didn’t do anything to deserve an award. And Kris, I’m glad for him and all, but AI Season 7 got many more viewers and David Cook made much more chatter with his pre idol cd outselling Mariah’s and then getting ripped from sales, and then 14 of his covers from AI hit the Top Billboard 200 charts all at once coming the closest of ANYONE! ANYONE! no one even came close to David to breaking the Beatles’ record, then David’s new CD went platinum 3 months after going on sale, and all of his sold out concerts, and his fund raising. It makes me want to puke colors (sorry… )!
Not to mention all of the concerts that were NOT sold out…
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 14:22 Blondie811:
I am so bummed! We all voted so much that I find it ridiculous that he’s not on the list. I don’t think they ever considered our write-ins.
That’s odd, I find it ridiculous that you all voted so much!
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:07 cookieisacutie:
Ditto to EVERYTHING Squirrellygirl said. Such a travesty..IMO. How can Adam or Kris be up for anything without a record release? Don’t understand this at all. Who else has had David’s track record this year?
Who would want it?
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:11 234DEB:
I cant believe he was not up for anything but I know he is #1 in everything and so does his fans and that is what counts.
Meanwhile, this fangirl is more concerned with appearances…
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:11 Permanent415:
While I agree with what everyone’s saying, please change the title of the thread. We’re acting like rabid Adam fans right now, it’s disrespectful to the PCAs.
Inevitably, any award that Cook wasn’t nominated for is denigrated, never mind that the fangirls have been voting feverishly to get that nomination for months…
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:13 Lulu618:
PCA=Joke
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:16 Luvncookie:
So the Peoples Choice ISN”T really the peoples choice? That’s sad.
Its more like who THEY, think, WE, think, are a POPULAR choice? They REALLY should have counted our write in votes… because they would have seen how many people would have buzzed their stupid show and had better ratings! Now when someone stands up there and accepts an award I almost feel embarrassed for them because they have to know they are NOT really the PEOPLES CHOICE!
Who knew that the only people who mattered were the fangirls at DCO?
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:28 quebec love:
It is true that People’s Choice is not the people’s choice because the “people” can only choose between the candidates they have chosen first !
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:33 cadburymonkey:
yeah i agree with Permanent415: we dont want to be compared to glamberts/claymates PLEASE though i can see why some are upset about this, but there’s nothing u can do about it, can u?
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:37 waterfall:
It’s wonderful that y’all voted for him and it’s disappointing that he isn’t nominated. Was he nominated last year? I can’t remember but it seems like both Davids were. It seems to reflect what’s happening now, and actually, David put his cd out a year ago, so he’s kind of “between new projects”, while Adam and Kris are the hot Idols right now, like David and Archie were last year.
I think next year with a new cd David will be hot again and have a better chance at award shows. I’m just speculating and could be wrong. I know it’s a huge disappointment and I’m probably not helping, sorry. But I think entertainers have hot years and they have “in-between” years and they can’t all be hot every year, it goes in cycles, if that’s any consolation.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 15:40 wissphoto:
Dave knows his fans love him and that if we had a way to vote him to the top we would have. I think Dave would rather have a grammy nom/win anyway. I think he would be stoked to have his peers think so highly of him.
And if he doesn’t get a Grammy nomination, what does that mean?
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 16:01 Lulu618:
PCA once again = fail. Funny how someone who didn’t even have any music out got the nom. David we know you are the best. These popularity polls suck. Hopefully, the industry will recognize David as an up and coming artist. (Grammy anyone?) I’m soooo pissed and frustrated that all of David’s accomplishments this past year are constantly being ignored. Sorry for my ranting but this is the only place I can do it. I too have a family that doesn’t understand my “obsession”.
On the other hand, we know David’s accomplishments and that he will be around for a long time, and we will be right here with him. I am proud of him regardless of any so called award. End rant.
ETA: Thanks DCO for helping me calm down. I have been totally bummed about this since I heard, but now feel better. Thanks to all my DCO friends for keeping my blood pressure down. This place seems like a second home since my obsession started. Ha!
You know what else sucks, fangirl? American Idol for allowing “popularity polls” to determine the winner.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 16:05 pweller7:
DITTO to all the below! PCA? What a PCA! BWAHA!
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 19:12 cougar4COOK:
Since we all seem to be on the same page, why don’t we give him an award from us?
Anyone interested in this venture? PM me if you are.
Fangirls are full of ideas, among other things…

From the blob, someone’s having a bad day:
ksgirlfordc
11/10/2009 at 2:52 pm
Well once again Cookie is ignored in these so called awards. Funny how someone who didn’t have any music out got nominated and PCA made it damned near impossible to get someone nominated that wasn’t on their list. Cookie just remember, we know who is the breakout artist of the year. Someone who has a platinum album, 2 platinum singles, a never ending tour, is number 12 in sales for the year with three top 40 songs. Congrats to the nominees, but PCA is a joke. JMO Let the fanwarring begin.
girlygirl
11/10/2009 at 2:53 pm
ksgirlfordc
All the categories had places for write-in votes, so you ould have voted for David Cook if you wanted to
ksgirlfordc
11/10/2009 at 3:09 pm
Sorry girlygirl, but DC fans DID vote with write ins but the 1st 4 days of voting write ins would not register unless you voted for someone on their list. This was reported to PCA and supposedly later corrected but how do we know that write in votes were even considered? Sorry for my rant, but DC being constantly ignored even with his accomplishments is getting a little old.
Perhaps because his “accomplishments” aren’t all you make them out to be?
A relatively rational fangirl weighs in:
babybelle32
11/10/2009 at 3:16 pm
It’s the People’s Choice Awards, no one will care about who won, or even remember the day after they air. The best part of the show is getting air time, so that these artists, actors, etc. can promote themselves.
David Cook has done an amazing job this year, but the nominations are a popularity contest, most of the people nominated this year won’t be back next year, that’s just how it is.
babybelle32
11/10/2009 at 3:17 pm
The edit function wouldn’t work, but to finish my thought: David has had a wonderful year, and not being nominated for an award won’t change that, or take away from all that he has accomplished.
Then a rival fangirl shows up with salt for any open wounds:
sylverine
11/10/2009 at 3:32 pm
ksgirlfordc – As far as I can tell people voted online for the artists – and Adam wasn’t on the original list, you had to vote under ‘other’ to GET him on the list, which voters obviously succeeding in doing. So the same could have been done for David Cook. Unfortunately it seems that not enough people voted for him.
Passive-aggressive to the end…

I’m sorry for David C too…He has done really good this year. PCA is just exposure opportunity, not a serious industry acknowledgement or things like that.
I suspect the industry couldn’t be bothered…

Dear Blogmistress,
Is chat still 123flashchat.com? If yes, I do not remember the room password. If I am not supposed to know the room password then, ahem, just ignore this comment.
‘Blogmistress’ always sounds so leather.
