Found via a link at the Rumor Mill:
Walking between rows of DVDs at the Best Buy store in West Hollywood, Brandy Moore admits that she doesn’t always buy the shiny discs anymore since she started downloading movies and TV shows from Apple’s iTunes Store. There’s just one problem: She hasn’t figured out how to watch them on her TV.
“I have a friend who’s going to come over and set that up for me,” the 34-year-old Los Feliz resident says. “I’m not a computer nerd.”
Moore and legions of the technologically challenged like her represent the next frontier for Best Buy, which is not only the nation’s largest electronics retail chain but also the second-biggest seller of DVDs, behind Wal-Mart. Sales of CDs and DVDs have declined precipitously this year; along with video games, they plunged 23% from a year ago at Best Buy stores in the company’s most recent quarter. The retail giant is responding not by cutting back on entertainment but by aggressively positioning itself for a future when movies, music and games are watched, heard and played from bits instead of on discs.

It’s about time!
When Michael Jackson was the country’s best-selling artist after his untimely death, Billboard ignored him in its Top 200 sales chart.
When the Beatles reissues stormed retail on 9/9/09, Billboard refused to go, “Yeah, yeah, yeah,” relegating them to their Catalog chart.
Throughout, HITS’ Top 50 Album sales chart continued to reflect what was really going on sales-wise, and now the Bible will follow our lead.

Found at The Velvet Rope:
Not long ago, if you wanted music, you had to save up your pocket money, take a trip to the local record shop and lovingly leaf through its racks.
Now, it’s almost all free, instant and infinite. And our relationship with music has changed forever.
We all know what the alleged future of music will look like. The record industry will be reduced to a smouldering ruin, the album replaced by endless individual songs and music rendered pretty much worthless by the fact that it’s universally free.

Also found at The Velvet Rope:
I hated being a teenager, until I discovered just how powerful the world of popular music was. It helped me find an identity and find myself.
Not just the notes and beats, but the icons and the haircuts and the clothes and the liner notes. Music saved me in a way, or at least it gave me a sense of direction of how life could be.
I became a teenager in 1972. In 1972, I was listening to music that was almost exclusively made in 1972. Some of it had been made in 1971, but that was about it, with few exceptions.
Something the internet has most definitely done is bring more music from more places and more eras into the hearts and minds of us all, but young people in particular, which is great.

In other chart-related news:
50 CENT ON THE DOLLAR: With 50 Cent’s new album, Before I Self Destruct, available digitally starting today, in advance of the actual album in-stores on Nov. 17, SoundScan has already confirmed it will combine downloads and physical sales when the release debuts on the chart of Nov. 24. That leaves some to question whether the other big releases of that week, including John Mayer, Norah Jones and Idol winner Kris Allen, will follow suit. The only previous time Billboard did something similar was with Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy album. Expect plenty of carping about the seeming inconsistency of the music industry bible’s decision. (11/9p)

From DCO, regarding Cook’s Sunday night concert at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas:
Monday, November 9, 2009 – 02:04 linvilla:
The concert was fantastic. This was only my 2nd show, my first was Winstar back in July, but I’ve seen dozens if not hundreds of you tubes. You can tell he absolutely loves what he does, after 140 shows he still puts 100+% into all of his performances. He really rocked out more tonight and sounded absolutely perfect! The set list was great, I didn’t get MITB or TIB, but it was a great set. I swear I saw the sound guys bring out the acoustic guitar, so was really hoping for something acoustic, but we didn’t get it. Lie was beautiful & since the crowd was kinda lame, we had no problem staying quiet. We also didn’t do too well on singing Come Back to Me, but we did great singing Heroes. I was surrounded by several guys and they all enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it was not sold out. It was hard to tell since everyone was either packed like sardines at the front or sitting at the tables at the back, but I think it was only about two thirds full. He ended with Straight Ahead and went down into the crowd and walked back and forth along the front, but I was further back, so I didn’t see alot of that.
…and the rationalization begins:
Monday, November 9, 2009 – 02:17 PeachMango:
Too bad about the place only being 2/3 full. Wasn’t it like that in Houston, too? Sadz. Seems the Texas shows were added late so maybe they didn’t have enough time to advertise? Glad to see the Script guys getting involved in the shenanigans.
The Palladium Ballroom has a capacity of 1200.

Egad, Scott is shaking his pom-poms for Kris!
Monday, November 9, 2009 – 13:09 Scott:
OT, but this thread has a wide audience. Quick post to say I’ve listened to Kris Allen‘s album on popeater and I think it’s fantastic. It’s ROCK! Jive not only let him put out a medium-rock album, it’s not over produced. Kris’s vocals are clear and crisp and shine thru (something I wish they let David’s do a little more on DCTR- gotta say). There are ballads that sound like ONe Republic but with Kris’ unmistakable vocals. Other songs have a To Have Heroes feel to me. The album is varied and eclectic, yet cohesive. They re-recorded Heartless. LLWD is, IMO, the weakest song on the album. Give it a try. Love to read y”all’s feedback in the OT thread.
Not everyone agrees…
Monday, November 9, 2009 – 18:16 Megg:
Alright Scott, I checked Kris Allen‘s album out on Popeater. My fav is Alright With Me, because I think his voice is better on the faster songs, this one’s got a good driving fun beat.
Give me David on a sustained note anyday of my life. Really, David has incredible breath support for a singer, and he either never breathes, or has almost silent breathing when he breathes near the mike. David’s notes seem to go on and on and on. Of course singing 365/24/7 probably helps that. David, tonal quality, alpha waves, on and on and on.
Kris’s album fits him, though. I am surprised there aren’t more fast songs.

Hi all,
Just to let you all know I won’t be around much tomorrow. I have to get up at 4:00 AM to drive 3 1/2 hours (one way) for a meeting with a judge regarding Lexi’s adoption. So far, all looks good.
