This Day in Music…July 21

The FINAL sales estimates for the week are in from Hits Daily Double:
1 daughtry 19/RCA/RMG 270,070 — LEAVE THIS TOWN
2 MICHAEL JACKSON EPIC 175,399 -47% NUMBER ONES
3 MICHAEL JACKSON EPIC 119,550 -10% ESSENTIAL
4 MICHAEL JACKSON EPIC 107,013 -51% THRILLER
8 MICHAEL JACKSON EPIC 61,479 -31% OFF THE WALL
9 MICHAEL JACKSON EPIC 56,399 -32% BAD
11 MICHAEL JACKSON EPIC 51,554 -17% DANGEROUS
17 JACKSON 5 MOTOWN 30,737 -25% ULTIMATE COLLECTION
20 JACKSON 5 MOTOWN 27,655 — 20TH CENTURY MASTERS
So the bald mutant lucked out. If the tool’s sophomoric album had been released a week earlier, he’d have been swept aside by the Jackson sales wave…Number Ones sold 348,507 copies last week.
I suspect the cretin’s fangirls did their best to try to match the first week’s sales of his debut album — 303,677 for those keeping track — but couldn’t quite manage that. So now we have to see how sales hold up over time.

A cautionary tale:
After selling more than three million copies worldwide of their first album, there was really only one way Australian rock band Jet could go.
Crash and burn.
Not only did the second album sell just 900,000 copies, but the band was struck by family tragedy, drugs, business turmoil, internal bickering and the obligatory problem girlfriend.

This sounds kind of interesting:
John Fogerty‘s “The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again,” a new collection of Fogerty recordings of some of his favorite classic songs, is set for release Sept. 1 on Fortune Son/Verve Forecast. The album, recorded under the guise of the mythical group of his 1972 solo debut, includes guest spots from Bruce Springsteen and members of the Eagles, and features covers of songs by John Prine, Buck Owens and John Denver, among others, as well as Fogerty’s own “Change in the Weather.”
and:
…guests on the album include the Eagles’ Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit, who help harmonize on Rick Nelson’s “Garden Party,” and Bruce Springsteen, who duets with Fogerty on the Everly Brothers’ classic “When Will I Be Loved.”

Another review for Jordin’s new album:
Nineteen year-old Jordin Sparks is the “American Idol” winner everyone always forgets. She hasn’t been as fantastically successful as Carrie Underwood, nor has she been consigned to the rodeo/state fair circuit, a la Taylor Hicks.

And the entirely predictable fangirl comments that followed:

You might be surprised to learn that Taylor Hicks has never been on a rodeo/county fair circuit. You might check Broadway.com and discover he is touring with the company and appearing in “Grease” all across the US and in Canada.

Your dim witted and totally uninformed remark about Hicks was unnecessary. Maybe you should do some homework, he may very well be the busiest idol working right now. I guess if you think that all that matters are huge cd sales you can miss a lot.

I understand you can make a pretty decent day’s wage—in tips alone—working as a valet at some of these rodeo/state fair venues.
