Being Human: Pilot Episode

Due to overwhelming popular demand, I have posted the pilot episode of Being Human. OK, maybe there wasn’t really overwhelming popular demand, but there was demand. Well, perhaps it is overstating it a bit to say that there was demand. However, KAC did tell me that I needed to post the pilot. So here it is.

The pilot’s cast differs greatly from the cast in the series—the characters of Annie, Mitchell, and Herrick were all recast! Thankfully, they kept actor Russell Tovey as George—he is nothing short of awesome as the socially inept werewolf—the show would not have been the same had that role been recast. Personally, I thought all the actors in the pilot were first rate—Andrea Riseborough was marvelous as the agoraphobic ghost, Annie. That being said, after viewing the first two of the six series episodes, I can not imagine anyone else other than Lenora Crichlow in the role. In the pilot, Guy Flanagan is effective as the dark, brooding Mitchell. However, in the series, Aidan Turner’s Mitchell offers a more indepth, richer, mature character, which appeals to me. Additionally, Turners delivery of his subtly humorous lines is always perfectly timed. Popular British actor Adrian Lester played Herrick in the pilot and was brilliant as the head vampire. You are right Lisa, he will be missed. That role was recast and in the series Herrick is now played to evil nasty perfection by Jason Watkins. Even though the pilot has different actors than the series for most of the central character roles, it is essential viewing.

Being Human was one of six special one-off dramas commissioned for BBC3, with one being selected for a series based on audience response. Being Human was the show selected.
