As for little d™, the label spent a boatload of money — the majority of which is subject to recoupment — to try and launch his insipid boy band, but so far, the return hasn’t been great. He’s lagging far behind in tour receipts, and spending the summer on the fair circuit hasn’t helped matters.

What’s never clear is why some Idols manage to overcome the dead weight of a recording contract and label support while others are crushed by that burden…

I’d say it was due to their talent but clearly there is little d as evidence to the contrary.

Clearly you have not read the fangirl handbook. It is entirely the label’s fault.

The label is always at fault. Always.

Any success an Idol achieves is a direct result of their own herculean efforts, and in spite of said label’s systemic incompetence.

Conversely, an Idol who fails is a victim of the label’s callous indifference, and in spite of said Idol’s undeniable brilliance.

My bad. Of course it’s not his fault. I don’t know what I was thinking. Despite his fans assuring us that he had been granted unprecedented freedom to create his album (and being the first Idol with the chops to do so) from style to album cover design to using his concept for the first *cough* video, it was all him. The fans went on further to promise us that Blake was beloved by Clive. Why, Clive almost wanted to adopt him because he was so talented. Yes, despite all this, the evil people at the label are all to blame for the flop-ola. Blake is innocent. Even if they did use his ideas, the label is still at fault because the label should have known those were bad ideas (seriously, I saw that one posted).

Poor, poor Blake.
